Pilgrim's Progress

 
John Newton was a great admirer of John Bunyan (1628-1628), pastor of the Independent church (now Bunyan Meeting Free Church) in Bedford and highly valued his writings.

John Thornton commissioned Newton to write a Preface for a 1776 edition of Pilgrim's Progress and to edit and contribute to the notes.
